The Week In Fishing - 29APR11

Updated 02MAY11 with Tim's Info

Nobody's saying that Tim controls the tournament, but since he went on vacation a week ago it's been non stop rain and gloom and no one was able to fish for almost a whole week.  When Tim returned on Friday, the sun came out and fishing picked up.  At lunchtime, four anglers tried the water, and of course Tim landed a fish.  Unfortunately, no picture or size if available at the time of this post, but a suitable substitute photo (see below) is being used.

Lunchtime Creel Count
Tim:  2 lb 2 oz
Skunk List: Bridgett, Chuck and Andrew

Tim - 2 lb 2 oz Largemouth Bass

Tim's Lunchtime Catch Placeholder

If there was a trophy for good sportsmanship, Bridgett would probably be in the lead.  After work she visited MI-60 and within a hour was able to land a 3 lb 09 oz fish which is just 1 oz short of tying Tim for the Spring Open segment lead and just 2 oz short of the lead.  So close.  Bravo for the honesty kid.  Bravo!

Thanks to the marvels of modern technology, Steve and Tom heard about Bridgett's catch and spent a hour out on the ponds as well.  Steve landed a single fish, but Tomski remained on the skunk list.

Bridgett: 3 lb 09 oz
Steve: 1 lb 10 oz

Weekly Strike Map - New Feature

Thanks to one dedicated angler with a GIS background, a new feature for the 2011 Spring Open has been added to the glorious web log.  The official Strike Map, shown below, located the locations where fish have been caught in the Spring Open.  The dots are color coded and the size of the dot depicts the size of the fish.  For those anglers without a fish yet (you know who your are), let Bridgett know when (or if) you finally caught a fish and the location and she'll add it to the map.

Size Doesn't Matter, Right?

The nice weather and the bite continued on Wednesday with eight (8) fish caught by three (3) anglers.   The day started off great when Bridgett fished before work and landed two (2) fish that weighed almost a half pound combined.  At lunch the fishing continued when Bridgett repeated her morning effort while both Tim and Steve managed to hit the same school of fish that weighed,  ahem, slightly less the the previous day's catch.  Here's the creel count:

Bridgett:  0 lb 3 oz, 0 lb 4 oz, 0 lb 3 oz, 0 lb 4 oz
Tim: 0 lb 9 oz, 0 lb 6 oz, 0 lb 3 oz
Steve: 0 lb 4 oz
Skunk List: Tomski

Two Tuesday Milestones

Two sunny days in a row and the bite continues at the Main Injector.  While the big news of the day was Tim regaining the lead of the Spring Open with a whopping 3 lb 10 oz monster, the other news is that Bridgett made her way on the leaderboard with a 4 oz bass.  Congrats to both Bridgett and Tim for a good day on the water.

Here's the list of regulars still awaiting the first fish:  Chuck, Andrew, Tomski and Ron.  Let's go gentlemen.

The Bite is On!

Eleven days in and finally the fish have begun to bite at the southwest end of the MI-60 Pond (or, as suggested, simply MI-50).  Tim, Bridgett, Tomski and Steve spent their lunch hour out in the weather.  Two of the anglers were rewarded with a fish.  Tim landed the first fish of the season with a 2 lb 0 oz bass in the same area just vacated by Bridgett.  A few minutes later, Steve outdid Tim by one ounce to temporarily lead the tournament for at least a day.

Here's the creel count:

06APR11 - Skunk List:  Andrew, Chuck, Tim, Bridgett
07APR11 - Skunk List: Andrew, Chuck, Tim, Tomski and Bridgett
11APR11 - Tim (2 lb 0 oz), Steve (2 lb 1 oz)
11APR11 - Skunk List: Bridgett, Tomski

First Fish of The Season - Tim - 2 lb 0 oz Largemouth Bass

Steve - Spring Leader (so far) - 2 lb 1 oz Largemouth Bass

Someone Caught Some FIsh on Spring Break

It appears that some angler spent his spring break boning up on the skills necessary to succeed in this year's tournament.

Three Days In and No FIsh Yet

The start of the 2011 Spring Open Segment began last Friday and no angler has yet to land a fish.  Here's the stats so far:

01APR11 - No anglers braved the weather
04APR11 - Chuck, Andrew and Tim all were skunked.
05APR11 - Chuck, Andrew, Tim, Tomski and Steve visited MI-60, but no fish.

The question everyone is asking is: "where's Bridgett?"  Only time will tell.

Unfinished Business

One bit of unfinished business from the Fall 2010 Open Tournament was the signing of the official trophy.  A humble Tim finally signed off on the trophy as shown below.  Here's a link to Tim's accomplishment of ten fish creel with a 3 lb 10 oz leader.  Congrats (belatedly) to Tim.
